Next, either fold a paper cup's opening into a narrow spout or use a spray bottle to soak the tissue thoroughly with diluted bleach solution, adding it gradually. A wooden chopstick lets you adjust the tissue's position without getting bleach directly on your hands.

Leave it in place for 2–3 hours depending on how bad the staining is — for severe or long-standing cases, half a day (about 12 hours) up to a full day (about 24 hours) works better. Once the contact time is up, remove the tissue, scrub lightly with a brush to clear any remaining residue, and rinse with water. The same method works on grout lines too.

Safety Rules That Aren't Optional

Bleach is a sodium hypochlorite-based product that can irritate skin and eyes, so wearing rubber gloves during the entire process is mandatory, not optional. Open a bathroom window or run the exhaust fan throughout to avoid prolonged inhalation in an enclosed space. Never mix bleach with other chemical cleaners, especially acidic toilet bowl cleaners — the combination produces toxic gas.
